Ivy Mike released its first album "New Emerald Sea" in 2010. The album is a compilation of original songs created from 2007 - 2010. During development, the 7-track album began taking shape as a great representation of the music Ivy Mike wanted to explore, with philosophical lyrics and psychedelic sound. The CD was released in the summer of 2010, with digital download capabilities via iTunes.
After the release of "New Emerald Sea", the common fan response was "I love the CD", "I listen to it in my car all the time", "there are so many elements, the music is hard to describe". It was great that fans felt Ivy Mike had done a great job of creating an original and cohesive sound; the opportunity Ivy Mike has today is to continue playing venues to generate additional exposure to its music and sound.
Ivy Mike was formed in the summer of 2008. The genesis began with guitarist Kevin McCauley and drummer Scott Toop trying to reignite a new music project. Kevin and Scott had played in local bands in the Baltimore area for many years, and were focused on creating a band to incorporate styles of the Dead and Pink Floyd. George Giblin was approached to join the group as a keyboardist/composer, having played in a number of local hard rock bands in Pennsylvania. Troy Fisher came on board as lead vocalist, having also played in local bands in Pennsylvania. In 2011, Ivy Mike made a change at the bass player spot, bringing on Jim McKay with his fluid style of playing (and kick ass ZZ Top beard).
Ivy Mike represents a great collaboration of musicians with versatility as a cover band for various events, as well as its focus on showcases that highlight original music in Maryland. As a cover band, Ivy Mike focuses on various festivals and private events; Ivy Mike has also played for charity events sponsored by the Baltimore County Fire Department.
As for its original sound, Ivy Mike is currently focused on events at the Recher Theatre in Towson, MD. Over the past few years Ivy Mike has played the Recher multiple times with great response. At each new show it's great to hear the bartender asking to hear the Bottle song, referring to 'Apothecary Bottle'; if a bartender remembers an original song after listening to band after band come through the Recher, it must mean there is something special with the music of Ivy Mike.
2012 is here. Is it the year of the apocalypse, or just the year of the dragon? Regardless, Ivy Mike will be continuing its focus to play for all the music lovers in the Maryland area. Ivy Mike has been playing out 3 new original songs, with others in development. The focus for 2012 will be to continue to play live shows and events. With new originals in the works, the main goal for 2012 is to come out with a new album for our fans.
